About Us
Launching officially this spring, Sundrop Flora is a young flower farm. The owner, Alexis Taylor, who was a vegetable farmer at Iola Valley Farm, started the business on a small scale in the growing season of 2020, selling to a local chef, CSA members, weekly at a farmers market, a local apothecary, and to customers via social media. After falling in love with being a flower farmer, she decided to start her own operation.

At Sundrop Flora, we strive to fuse together beauty and function. Flowers are often thought of only as the occasional gift, instead of as the source of food, medicine, and joy that they are. Flowers can be edible, nutritious, and even medicinal, while also bringing a touch of beauty, tranquility, and fun to our lives. Whether sprinkled on top of a salad, put atop a wedding cake, given as a gift, added to a stew, or brewed into tea, flowers are versatile, gorgeous, useful, and healthy. We aim to open up people’s minds to what a flower can be and do, create awareness around flowers as a food source, and honor the earth by cultivating the beauty she provides. By growing flowers locally, we will be able to provide bouquets that mitigate climate change and damage to the earth through fossil fuels and negative growing practices instead of contributing to these issues.

The flowers are grown at Iola Valley Farm located by Blue Mesa Reservoir in Gunnison. Alexis partners with Iola by renting greenhouses and growing space from fellow farmer, Matthew Ozyp. Bouquets, both fresh and dried, as well as edible flowers, tea blends, and medicinal flowers will be sold at the greenhouse on East Tomichi, through CSA subscriptions, and to local chefs, florists, and stores.

Principles:
- All growing will be beyond organic.
- Wholeness and mental health is important for us and our customers.
- Community is why we are here.
- Our simple aim is to honor the earth by bringing more beauty and joy into the world.
- We strive for balance, joy, passion, grit, determination, fun, growth, and continuous learning.
- Collaboration and cooperation with others is essential to success and thriving, and we seek to support other women, minority, & LGBTQ+ owned businesses, as well as all small businesses in our community.
Practices
All growing is beyond organic, and we are also going to work to regenerate our soil, use crop rotation schedules, attract native pollinators, build our own compost, and implement as close to no-till methodology as possible.
